When buying dried or fresh flowers for your bird, ensure they are safe for them to eat, and that they have not been exposed to any pesticides.

Popular Safe Flowers For Parrots

Some of the most popular flowers with Parrots include:

Chamomile

This flower has been known to have calming effects which can help anxious Parrots and those who are exhibiting hormonal behaviour. Chamomile may also aid with minor digestive upsets, and it also has antibacterial properties. This flower can also help with feather plucking issues in combination with veterinary and behavioural advice.

Hibiscus

Add this flower to your bird’s diet for a bit of colour and natural sweetness. Hibiscus flowers can benefit your bird by potentially aiding digestion, providing a calming effect as well as being high in antioxidants. They are also a great source of Vitamin C.

Calendula

Many Parrots will enjoy holding and shredding calendula flowers so they are great to offer as a foot toy. Calendula flowers are high in antioxidants which are important for improving your bird’s immune system. These flowers are also a source of beta-carotene which the body can convert into Vitamin A.

Linden Flower

These flowers boast many heath benefits including being anti-inflammatory and aiding in digestion. Linden flowers are also thought to be a mild pain killer, though it is not a substitute for seeking veterinary treatment if your bird has hurt themselves.

Sunflowers

These beautiful flowers are packed with Vitamin E and Omega-6. They also possess anti-inflammatory properties and can support balancing blood sugar levels.

Sunflowers are a fun addition to your bird’s diet, as they can eat the petals as well as the seeds, though these should be offered in moderation due to their high fat content.

Keep It Varied

As with all foods, variety is key, so it’s important not to just feed only one type of flower to your Parrot. Switch it up each week and see which ones your birds enjoy!
