Large Macaw Toy Guide

Published on Friday, 22nd March 2019

Welcome to your handy guide all about the different toys available for your Large Macaw. Here we’ve highlighted the main toy types as we as some of those tried, tested and highly rated by other Parrot owners.

Foraging Toys
With chewable foraging toys your Parrot must chew or shred their way into toys, but with reusable foraging toys they have to move or manipulate the parts to get to the goodies.

The Foraging Bucket is easy to fill with all your bird’s favourite things, then they can tip the bucket to get them out.

Teach your Parrot how to dismantle the logs to uncover the treats on the Turn ‘n’ Learn Toy.
Wood and Rope Toys
All these toys either have rope for preening on, wood for chewing on or both.

The Stacks and Spools Toy has lots of blocks and beads to keep beaks busy chewing and preening.
The Rainbow Tower has chunky wood to chew on, and you can easily add other materials too.

Cardboard and Paper Toys
If your Macaw loves shredding they’ll love these toys, as they’re all made from materials your Parrot can rip, tear up and shred to pieces.

The Shred It has long lengths of paper for your Large Macaw to shred with their feet or beak.
The Large Birdie Bangles are perfect as a foot toy or for your Parrot to enjoy chewing and shredding.

Willow and Palm Toys
Keep your Large Macaw’s beak busy with materials they can unravel, shred and chew.
Watch your Parrot enjoy chewing and unravelling the Large Munch Ball

Coconut and Cactus Toys
Are irresistible natural textures for your Macaws to shred, chew and preen on.

The Coco Full Moon and Coco De Nut are made from all-natural materials that provide your Large Macaw with lots of fibres to pick and preen.
Bird Kabobs are made from agave or cactus wood. Parrots can’t resist chewing and stripping the wood.
Acrylic and Metal Toys
Strong and durable materials, plus many have parts on to remove and twist and spin.

Fill the Baffle Cage with anything your Large Macaw enjoys eating, then they need to work out how to break the treats down again to get them through the bars.

The Super Binkies Hanging Wiffle Ball keeps your Large Macaw’s mind and beak busy as they work at removing the dummies from the ball.

Foot Toys
Are built to be lightweight, so your Large Macaw can easily hold them in their feet or beak.

The Jingle Ball has a smaller ball inside that rattles as the toy is rolled around.

The Large Pencil Foot Toy is made for your Macaw to chew on.

Swings and Climbing Toys
Walking and moving around on these toys gives a Macaw exercise through play.

The Rainbow Ring Swing is great fun to climb on, and it has lots of soft cotton pieces to preen and untie.
The Jungle Wood and Rope Ladder is over 3 feet wide and has over 30 pieces of wood for your Large Macaw to strip the bark from and chew on.

Bells and Musical Toys
If your Macaw likes making lots of noise (and what Macaw doesn’t?) they’ll like these toys.
The Stainless Steel Bells and Buffet Ball with Bell are perfect for noise-loving Macaws. They can chime and ring these strong yet lightweight toys all day long.

Activity and Trick
Teach your Large Macaw a new skill like shooting hoops with a Basketball Set or help them to identify different colours and numbers with the Teacher Toy.

If you’d like some help teaching your Large Macaw to talk, the Mimic Me is perfect. This handy device allows you to record words in your own voice, then plays it back to your Parrot to learn.
Toy Packs
A great place to start is with a toy pack. These great value packs offer a variety of toy types for you to try your Macaw with and can work out at better than half price compared to ordering each toy separately.

Please Note
You’ll know your Parrot best, please choose toys that you feel are suitable for your Large Macaw’s level of destruction. As with anything new it can take some time for your Large Macaw to accept a new toy. Introduce new toys slowly. Place it some distance away from your Parrot at first, then bring it closer to them as they become more confident.
