Lovebird Feeding Guide

Published on Thursday, 14th March 2019
A Lovebird’s diet needs to be as mixed as possible. The base diet, approx 60-80%, should be pelleted or complete food, with the remainder being seed and sprouting seed, fruits, nuts, vegetables and other treats.

We’d also encourage you to place food in foraging toys for your Lovebird to find with their amazing foraging skills, as well as placing some in their feeding dish.

Complete and Pelleted Food
American company Lafeber have developed NutriBerries with 40 essential ingredients your Lovebird needs. There are Original, Sunny Orchard and Tropical to choose from. Their small berry shape makes them easy to hold and fun to eat.

ZuPreem Natural, ZuPreem FruitBlend and ZuPreem Smart Selects are an enticing mix of colours, shapes and flavours for a fun eating experience.

Sprouting Seed / Soaking Seed
Take the time to prepare these seeds to give your Lovebird even more of the goodness nature intended. Soak them for a couple of days, rinsing occasionally, then serve them with your bird’s daily diet.

Fruits
Support your Lovebird’s good overall wellbeing. They have Vitamin C that help the immune system, Vitamin A for the eyes and more. These include

Berries such as Juniper and Cranberries
Apple
Figs
Pumpkin seeds
Mango

Seed Mixes
Tidymix Parakeet Diet has 21 healthy ingredients and is all 99% edible, to reduce waste and feeding costs. Kelp is added for high mineral levels too.

Johnston and Jeff Premium Parakeet Mixture has high quality seeds and grains that give essential vitamins and minerals.

Vegetables
Are another healthy snack for your Lovebird to tuck into, such as carrots, kale and broccoli.

Other Treats
If all that wasn’t enough, there are even more treats to choose from.

Fruit Cup Jelly Treats come in melon, orange, yoghurt, strawberry, honey, banana and assorted flavours. Peel the lid and hand over to your bird.

Lovebirds enjoy picking through Millet Sprays.

Vitapol treat sticks – get two sticks in every pack of for double the fun. There are premium, fruit, honey and egg flavours ready to order.

Please Note
We would always advise buying the smallest bag/pack possible to trial your Parrot with. It can take some time and persistence to introduce a new food. It may be worth having a second bowl of water next to your Lovebird’s food bowl, as many enjoy dunking their food before eating it. Always have fresh water available.
