Your guide to F10? Disinfectant Products

Why is the F10? product range so highly recommended by veterinarians and bird owners? Let?s Explore?

The F10? range is highly recommended by veterinarians and bird owners because it delivers exceptional efficacy, outstanding safety, and ease of use. Proven to kill all major pathogens?including viruses, bacteria, fungi, spores and resistant threats like PBFD and avian flu?F10? works rapidly while remaining gentle enough to use around birds, people and equipment. Its non?corrosive, non?irritating formulas can be left to air dry, maximising contact time and effectiveness.

Backed by extensive independent testing, global regulatory approvals, and trusted by leading avian vets, zoos, and rescue centres, F10? offers reliable, versatile hygiene solutions including concentrated and ready?to?use disinfectants, disinfectant?cleansers, room foggers, wipes and bird?safe hand hygiene products.

Why choose F10??

When choosing a product to use for keeping your Parrot's environment clean, you want to ensure you pick one which is:

  • Effective
  • Safe for your birds
  • Safe for you and your equipment
  • Easy to use
  • Independently tried and tested for efficacy and safety
  • Veterinary approved

F10? products tick all of boxes.

How Effective is F10??

The F10? range is proven effective against all known types of pathogen, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores. It is therefore effective against Circovirus/PBFD, Avian ?flu, Candida, French Moult Virus, Coccidia, Aspergillus, and much more. There is also a rapid kill time ? for example at recommended dilutions gram positive bacteria are killed in under 30 seconds.

How Safe is F10? for your birds?

At recommended dilutions all products in the F10? range can be used around your birds. There is no need to remove them from the area when using the disinfectants* and the solution can be left to air dry ? there is no need to rinse or wipe off the solution**.

This maximises contact time between the actives and the pathogens, ensuring optimal results can be achieved. Some other disinfectant ranges must be rinsed off, reducing their efficacy, and raising questions about their safety.

Is F10? safe for me and my Parrot's equipment?

F10? products are non-irritating, so won?t damage your hands. They are also non-corrosive, so won?t damage equipment*, surfaces, cages, etc, even with repeat use.

Are F10? easy to use?

F10? disinfectant is simple to use - just apply at the recommended dilution and leave it to do its work. As the solution can be left to air dry it can be quick to apply, with long-lasting results. There is no need to relocate your birds* so disinfection can be easily done when convenient to you.

The range also includes products to make hygiene processes even easier:

  • The F10? Aerosol Fogger for disinfection of entire rooms including the air space.
  • The F10? Disinfectant Wipes for a disinfecting ?clean-up? of surfaces and objects; products for hand decontamination; and more.

Has F10? been Independently tried and tested?

F10??s complete spectrum of efficacy has been proven in hundreds of product specific tests by independent accredited laboratories, and assessed and approved with over 50 registrations by regulatory authorities around the world.

Unfortunately, the efficacy and safety of disinfectant products put onto some markets is unregulated, meaning many available products have had no independent professional assessment. It is therefore important for you to check the products you are using.

Why are F10? products veterinary approved?

F10? products are the disinfectants of choice for many of the UK?s leading avian vets, and are used at numerous zoos and rescue facilities ? places where efficacy, safety, and ease of use must combine with affordability, and F10? products offer the best solution.

* If using the F10? Aerosol Fogger removing birds from the room is recommended due the alcohol propellant which is used to ensure the solution is expelled from the canister. Covering electrical items is recommended as some surfaces may become wet.

** Any product which contains a detergent, irrespective of brand, will leave a soap residue when it dries. If using the F10?CLXD or F10?SCXD, after the actives have been given time to work, it is recommended to rinse to remove this soap residue ? for example if used on feeding bowls or chewing toys.

Which F10? product to use?

Should you use a Disinfectant or a Disinfectant Cleanser?

Any disinfectant (irrespective of the brand you choose) is most effective in the absence of organic matter. If the surface you are cleaning is ?dirty? then it is always best pre-clean to remove your bird?s muck, or any discarded food, so the disinfectant has less obstruction in combatting the pathogens.

If the surface is then visibly clean you can apply a disinfectant. The Ready to Use Disinfectant, F10?SC and F10?CL are all disinfectant products at varying levels of dilution (see below). When used as recommended, these solutions can then be left to air dry ? there is no need to wipe or rinse.

If the surface is then ?lightly soiled?, a disinfectant with added cleaning detergent (the F10?SCXD and F10?CLXD) can be used. The detergent will help in removing any remaining organic matter, assisting the disinfectant element in accessing and killing the pathogens.

It should be noted, however, that any product which contains a detergent, irrespective of brand, will leave a soap residue when it dries. This is therefore true of the F10?SCXD and F10?CLXD, so rinsing off this residue is recommended before bowls are reused, toys are played with, etc.

So, the answer to ?Which should you choose??, depends on your hygiene regime. If you usually pre-clean before you disinfect then the ?disinfectant only? products will likely be best as they can be left on all surfaces. If you want a product which will be part of your cleaning process, then one of the XD products will help to clean and disinfect in a single step (though you should then rinse to remove the soap residue).

Should you use a concentrated product or a Ready to Use?

The F10?SC and F10?CL are disinfectants in a concentrated form. These should be diluted with water prior to use.

The F10? Ready to Use disinfectants can be used straight from the bottle.

Some advantages of each are as follows:

  • The Ready to Use products are just that ? there is no need to dilute them yourself, so you will always have a solution suitable for high-level disinfection for immediate use.
  • The concentrated products can be diluted at the desired rate. If you need to make a stronger solution (to combat a particularly resistant pathogen), or weaker solution (for lower-level hygiene procedures), when compared to the Ready to Use solution, this can be done as you choose the dilution rate.
  • The concentrated products are a more cost-effective method.
  • Whilst the Ready to Use may work out more expensive per litre of disinfecting solution, there is no mixing required, saving time and removing any concern about using the wrong dilution.
  • Note, however, that a solution made from the F10?SC or F10?CL remains stable once mixed, so it can be made in larger amounts and stored, rather than needing to make it ?fresh? every time.

The difference between the F10?SC and the F10?CL is that the F10?CL is already semi-pre-diluted.

  • They both require some dilution by the user, but as the F10?CL is semi-pre-diluted there is more margin for error when measuring it.
  • As the F10?SC is the most concentrated solution it is available in the smallest bottle size (200ml), so is the most space-efficient

The Disinfectant Cleansers are only available in concentrated forms ? the F10?SCXD and F10?CLXD ? with no Ready to Use product available.

F10? hand hygiene products

As well as the disinfectant products, the F10? range also includes products for hand hygiene to help in preventing the transfer of pathogens.

All the hand hygiene products are based on the core actives of the F10? range, providing the same high levels of efficacy as the disinfectant products. They are effective against all known types of pathogen, so help to combat viruses, bacteria, spores and fungi.

As it is the F10? core active which combat the pathogens they can be low in alcohol, or alcohol-free. Some hand hygiene ranges rely on a high alcohol content for their efficacy, and this can be damaging to your skin. The lower/no alcohol in F10? products means they are gentle on skin, even with frequent use.

F10? Hand Gel: A fast-acting, quick-drying, gel for easy hand decontamination without the need for a sink, or for frequent use when ?on the go?. It has a much lower alcohol content than many other hand gels, and has a high emollient content ? this combination makes it much kinder on skin than many products on the market.

F10? Hand Scrub: A soap/scrub for high-level decontamination when washing your hands at a sink. Alcohol-free, and with a high emollient content, it is kind on skin with a proven ?zero skin irritation hazard? on both intact and abraded skin.

F10? Hand Foam: A waterless, alcohol-free, foam for quick and easy hand decontamination in all situations. In a convenient pocket-size bottle, it provides high levels of decontamination with no mess.

F10? Disinfectant Wipes: Convenient biodegradable, single-use wipes impregnated with F10?SC for quick clean up and disinfection. F10? Disinfectant Wipes are highly effective against bacteria, fungi and viruses, and the F10?SC disinfectant which impregnates the wipes is at a 1:100 dilution, a dilution proven effective against the most resistant viruses, including circovirus (PBFD) and avian ?flu.

The F10? disinfectant wipes are highly effective and yet non-irritant and non-corrosive so can be effectively and frequently used on surfaces and equipment. They are also kind on skin so can be used for hand decontamination when washing facilities are unavailable.

Check your current wipes:

  • Are they effective against viruses? Many wipes are just antibacterial. F10? Disinfectant Wipes are antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral.

  • Are they kind to skin? Not all disinfectant wipes are designed for frequent use and can dry out skin. F10? Disinfectant Wipes are non-irritating and can be used for hand decontamination as well as on surfaces.
