This is Gordon?Gordonia Bennett I if you?re speaking formally. She?s a 12-year-old Quaker Parrot and has been the reigning monarch of my heart (and my household) since the day she arrived.

She was parent-reared and not tame when I brought her home, but over time, we built something truly special. She chose to trust me, in her own time and in her own way. That quiet trust has become the foundation of a bond that?s lasted over a decade.

Gordon has never spoken a word, but she communicates everything. She sings when she sees me, bobs her head when she?s excited and offers gentle beak rubs when she?s feeling affectionate. She expects loyalty, daily tribute (usually a blueberry or NutriBerry) and head rubs in the precise location of her choosing.

No one else is allowed that honor. She?s never laid an egg, but she absolutely rules like she?s raised an empire. Her cage is her castle, Sir Clunkington is her perch-throne, and her happy hut is a strictly monitored royal chamber.

She holds grudges (especially against my dad, for something he did twelve years ago), expresses disdain if her expectations aren?t met, and somehow still manages to be the sweetest, most comforting presence in my life.

Through all the ups and downs, Gordon has been there?constant, loyal, and uniquely herself.

She doesn?t need to do tricks or talk. Just being Gordon is enough. She is truly amazing.
