Say hello to Harley the Eclectus

For this month’s Meet My Parrot article we’re meeting the lovely Harley the Eclectus. Harley lives with his owner Helen Charnley.

Meet Harley

Harley is a 5 year old Eclectus and he was born in 2014.

He lives with Elvis, a male Eclectus, three female Eclectus, Cindor, Ruby and Georgia and Tiki, a Senegal Parrot.

He is unusual as he has blue feathers on his chin so we have nicknamed him Blue Beard.

His favourite place to sit is on the Java tree in the window, watching the world go by and whistling at people going past. Harley loves visitors and attention and shows off.

Food

He wakes up with a woo woo and waits for his breakfast of mixed chop with sprouted seeds. He has a small amount of fruit and loves to steal bits of my banana. Harley also eats a small amount of seed with no peanuts or sunflower seeds in it. Treats he loves are almonds, pistachios and crunchy veg sticks.

He is more of a thinker than a player but he does like foraging toys, whether homemade or bought and loves toys that rattle and he can bang about and throw them out of his cage.

Harley is pretty independent but will spend time with you and sleep on you. Harley also likes to be involved in what you are doing and many a time you will turn round and there will be a big orange beak looking at you.

He can mimic and speak quite a bit. Harley likes to mimic you coughing and ask you what you are doing. He blows raspberries, and call Tiki Bird, along with other phrases.

He whistles tunes a lot and I’m sure he makes some up.

If your Parrot would like to be featured in our next Meet My Parrot article please have a read of these questions.
