Find out more about the Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic

We are thrilled that the vets at the Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic at Ashleigh Vets in Manchester have started writing blogs for us.

Here is some more information about what they do and the different services they can offer you and your Parrot.

The Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic started in 1996 as a specific clinic for birds and other exotic species within an Ashleigh Veterinary Centre an established and well equipped veterinary practice. This allowed the resources (both equipment and specialist skills) to be shared. There is now a team of 9 veterinary surgeons, ten veterinary nurses, three auxiliary veterinary nurses, various receptionists and a practice manager.

The staff are all highly qualified and some staff have an exotic animal medicine and surgery qualification. Their avian vets are Aidan Raftery, Lianne Foxall and Filipe Martinho. Aidan is also a chartered biologist and a founding member of the European Association of Avian Veterinarians

They use the latest medicine and surgical advances to bring their patients the best care possible.

At the centre they have training and behaviour modification clinics, to help you get to grips with your bird’s behaviour, and nursing clinics, that deal with everything from weight management to flea treatments and prevention.

Ashleigh Veterinary Centre has an on-site cattery where cats can board when their owners are away. This is staffed by Ashleigh’s dedicated team.

The veterinary practice has a veterinary surgeon on the premises 24 hours a day, 365 days to provide constant inpatient care and also to provide treatment when emergencies arise.
