As always, there are lots of pet and agricultural shows happening across the country this year.
Although the focus of these is mainly dogs or cats, our feathered friends are making an appearance at some of the events during 2016.
Here’s a handy rundown of all the pet shows in the UK that we know of where Parrots or birds will be present. If you think we’ve missed any or are going along to any of these please let us know in the comments.
The biggest event of the year is of course Think Parrots on June 19th 2016. We’re sponsoring and attending the event for the fifth time and are already really excited. It’s being held at Kempton Park Racecourse and continues to grow in popularity every year. It’s the only all Parrot show we know of in the UK. For more information, please read our blog announcing more details here, including how you can purchase early bird tickets.
The Parrot Society hold three big shows throughout the year and are big supporters of the Stafford Spring Bird Show. These are held at the Staffordshire County Showground are a must for all bird keepers. It’s your opportunity to purchase new birds and products from your fellow breeders.
The Spring Show is taking place on Sunday March 6th, the Summer Show on Sunday 3rd July, National Exhibition on Sunday 9th October and The Help Bird Keepers Show on Sunday 4th December.
These events often sell out so book your tickets early to avoid disappointment.
The Society are also celebrating their 50th birthday over the weekend of Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September 2016. Members of the society are invited to Chester Zoo to hear talks by top Parrot specialists and then tour the zoo at their leisure.
Top avian consultants including Barbara Heidenreich, Rosemary Low and Steve Brookes are just some of the speakers.
The Newark Bird Show happens twice a year, in 2016 it's on Sunday 7th February and Sunday 6th November. There's a breeder table, bird space and more.
The National Pet Show has become so big, it’s taking place at two venues at different times of the year. Firstly you’ll be able to see Budgies, Canaries, Finches and more at the Excel Arena in London on Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th. Meet with experts to ask them your bird related questions and watch displays from spectacular birds of prey.
Then on Saturday November 5th and Sunday November 6th the show moves onto Birmingham’s NEC Arena. It’s expected there’ll be similar activities but this will be confirmed nearer the time.
May is a popular time for shows, as up in Scotland it’s the Scottish Bird Fair on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd May. It’s part of the Big Nature Festival, and there’ll be talks from avian experts, workshops to give you a chance to learn hands on birding skills, go on walks and plenty more family friendly activities. It’s less than 10 miles from Edinburgh so really easy to travel to as well.
Over the same weekend but at the opposite side of the UK is the Norfolk Bird and Wildlife Fair. Bird related events occurring so far include a sponsored bird race and Matt Merritt will be signing copies of his new book A Sky Full Of Birds. Tickets are available for this entertaining show now.
As we enter June and summer there’s even more bird and Parrot related shows to attend.
Between Thursday 9th and Saturday 11th June it’s the Royal Cornwall Show. Different bird species are going to be on display at the event. Keep checking their website for more details as they’re announced. It takes place at the Royal Cornwall Showground in Cornwall.

A couple of weeks later it’s time for Birdfair, between Friday 19th and Sunday 21st August. It’s happening at the Rutland Nature Reserve in Rutland in the East Midlands. Go along for bird watching around the active reserve and plenty more activities announced nearer the time.
One of the first shows of the year is the South West Bird Show on Sunday 21st February. Then there are further shows on Sunday 5th June and Sunday 30th October, all at Sedgemoor Auction Centre in Somerset. There’ll be stalls selling birds and everything you need to care for them.
Finally The Pet Show is taking place on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July 2016 at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire. At The Aviary Zone there’s the opportunity to watch a display by our blogger Mike Simmons from A World of Wings, meet the birds in the care of charity Problem Parrots and a lot more besides.
