Wire Box - Very Secure For Vet Trips. Wire So Not Too Different From Regular Cage For The Bird

Best feature - no worries about the bottom coming off - its a wire box all the way round. Unlike the last small cage I used for travel. Small size also makes it easy to move around safely and steadily. The plastic base clips on to this adequately well. It could have more streamlined firmer clips for travel for me but its no less safe because of this. I havent tried the feeders, I use eggcup sized feeders inside as my birds dont use seed hoppers day to day. I seal the feeder holes tightly with vet wrap, which my birds dont try to mess with in the hours to and from vets. Not sure I would like to leave them unsupervised with this tho. Only had one budgie in it so far - I may try two who get on well, maybe not - it is small. The gaps between the cage walls on mine are no bigger than the width of the bars. There were some sharp plastic bits on mine from the plastic moulding process I imagine which I have lightly sanded smooth with a nail file. Im also using this cage to nebulize - covered in cling film.

I was a little concerned when I read a few reviews of this carry cage, with one in particular mentioning how hard it was to assemble. When it arrived it took me moments to figure out how to put it together so I was plesently surprised. Simple instructions would be helpful for some people however. My first time using this was reasonable and my only issue with the design was the rather small front door. However, aside from that, the cage is very useful and easy to take apart to clean.

This Cage Is Bit Of A Conundrum!

Wanted a good, light, second cage for my budgie for when cleaning her main cage or vet trips. This seemed ideal and much more affordable than others. Cannot find many suitable. BUT there are many design details that are very irritating and I almost decided to send it back. However, some workarounds and a dearth of alternatives has changed my mind. First, no leaflet showing how everything fits together, so lots of time wasted, with just the online photo to work it out. Needed my partners brain to help mine. The bottom does clip to the top with plastic things but took ages to realise what these were and how they work. The wire base is rather odd with larger gaps and pointed corners which could be dangerous. I would only use it with doubled base paper wrapped securely around so my budgie cannot burrow underneath it, her favourite pastime. The feeding bowls are completely hopeless. There is no way I would use them because, like others, I just cannot get the covers to clip to them, and without that, they flop about, very likely to fall off, leaving big gaps. The workaround is to use just the covers to clip permanently over the holes, which they do securely, and put separate bowls inside, as another reviewer has done. The perch is nasty thin plastic. I will use my own. The door has a sprung clip which I would not rely on without adding a strong bamboo peg. There is another oddly shaped plastic thing which needed a phone call to discover what it was for...the handle. So, think it will now do the job well but a great pity about all the hassle. Very good service from this supplier: fast and helpful, many thanks.

Very Poor Product

The cage I received was very poorly constructed with gaps between the sides which my birds could easily have harmed themselves with. The metal cage does not click into the base so the extra clips need to be used BUT as another reviewer stated these are not secure enough. I was not prepared to wrap mine in tape so have sent it back. Very disappointed and surprised that Northern Parrots would stock such a poor product

Northern Parrots: Thanks for your review. Apologies for the issues with the cage you received, we will be taking that up with the manufacturer as the cage doesn't sound acceptable at all. Thanks for letting us know.

Great Product With One Caveat That Can Be Overcome

Study little cage that I was not sure about at first but now love. Budgie seems fine in this for a few hours during a car journey provided he has his favourite toys and food for company and a small fleece hot water bottle in the base if not a sunny day which he often prefers to the perch . Fits nicely on the knee and perch position adjustable so we can set it he can nibble our noses through the bars when he wants contact. 1 MAJOR warning: clips for base and the seed boxes are useless, and the base is necessary as the bars do not meet properly and have rough edges - I wrap sellotape around instead to hold the base on and have discarded the perspex seed boxes and just clip the tops over the holes, putting my own seed pot in the cage. This works fine and we have had no issues or breakout attempts in over a year of use from a very active little bird. Large enough for a budgie to stretch his wings, but more than one or a larger bird I would not keep in it for very long.
