My Parrots: Cockatiel
Location: United Kingdom
Normally, I buy Pretty Bird complete - Small mix for my cockatiel but it was not available. So, I ordered this ZuPreem Fruitblend Medium - Complete food for Cockatiels. The pellets are hard as a rock. My bird tries to eat them. He cracks the pellet and shatters it sending it shooting out of the cage. The floor of the room is covered with the broken bits of these hard pellets. They hurt my feet to walk on bare foot. My bird gets a tiny bit from each one. So he s hungry as well! This morning, I decided to try and pre-crack the food. I put the pellets into a ziplock bag and rolled them with a rolling pin to break them to bits. It did not break them. I then proceeded to smash the pellets by bashing them with the rolling pin. I now have a battered blend of pellets that my bird can eat and not make a huge mess. This food is only suitable for my own aerobic exercise and entertainment. Never again will I buy this food! The delivery service was excellent as usual.

I gave this item 4 starts purely because it took quite a while before my cockatiel even tried it, it was going to waste. She has adapted now and enjoys it. My Kakariki is more adventurous with food and enjoyed it from the get-go.

Not my favorite pellet for lifelong feeding. Great crunchy texture and visual interest to start the conversion process or to rekindle the interest of an ill bird in non-seed options.

Great food, too many additives

Both my cockatiels were raised on seed by the breeder but I was able to give them a taste for vegetables from a young age and thought it'd be time to try out some pellets.I bought these because of their colour and good reviews. I left my two cockatiel boys with only the pellets in the morning but gave them their regular seed at night. My younger bird(under a year) gave them a go from day one, but within 3-4 days both of them willing polished off the pellets with no problems and continue to eat a pellet and seed diet. This food smells amazing(not that the birds can smell it) and I even tried a few myself(and no, I don't totally recomend it XD). The colour really interested them and at first they only ate certain colours but it's all the same which helps a lot.My only problem is looking at the chemistry lesson on the back, just a few too many aditives for my liking. I think it's a good place to start but I will be giving the more natural pellets a go from now on.

I have used these pellets for about a year and my birds love them. They smell simply wonderful and the tiny pellets look as delicious as they smell. I just bought them for the first time at Northern parrots and find that their bags are much fresher than the ones I can get here. The bag size is just right for me.

Wasn't sure my fussy cockateils would eat,....Great news they love it ,only problem is they "Ping" when eaten, not the foods fault, but the round various colours are tempting and my birds try to open them, being so crunchie they tend to explode and must be eaten in their cage, not in bed !great smelling, tasty product and recommended,

The product is as described, smells good. Nice sized pellets.I do think there's not much quantity for the price though.I am trying to change to a pellet diet so I'm currently attempting the diet change over method as suggested on the bag, but so far with little success to be honest. (normally my birds eat Beaphar seeds, with fruit and veg daily). So far neither bird, my Quaker or Ringneck is eating Zupreem fruitblend, it either gets left in the dish or thrown over my floor. I'll keep trying and give it chance though, its worth a trial. My birds seem more fascinated by the colour if anything, or does that just make it more attractive to throw all over the floor??!

I ordered these fruity pellets as I like ZuPreem, and I wanted to see what my two cockatiels made of them. I feed my birds a mixure of Lafebers and Harrisons, and I wanted something colourful to add, to spice it up. My birds are refusing to eat fresh fruit and veg, so I thought it would make a change. The bag arrived, and it's good and sturdy. It will withstand numerous opening and sealing and reopening. The fruity pellets were a surprise. Much bigger than Harrisons, and my previous ZuPreem natural pellets. I'd say that the green and pink pellets are around 4mm diameter, while the yellow ones are around 7mm and banana shaped!Opening the bag, the pellets smelled really fruity and looked very appetising, if a little larger than normal. The bag contains a packet of bird safe dehumidifying agent, to keep the pellets good and crunchy.I put a couple of teaspoons in with their breakfast every morning, and while it's taken a while for my youngest to have a go, I now know that they're eating the pellets by the sheer crunchy noise they make! So, it did take a while for my Tiels to start to eat them, but now my little'un actually seeks them out to crunch and eat. A little goes a long way, and they seem to like the variety!
