Excellent Product

Freddy our African Grey parrot loves this toy. We filled it with lots of different treats and at first he just sat and watched it he would not go near it. Well that lasted all of 5 minutes, he soon figured out how to make the wheel spin to get to the treats. He does not stop until it is empty, even if he does not want the treat it lets that fall to the fall and goes for another one. The product is made of excellent quality, easy to clean and keeps Freddy happy for hours on end.

Loved it for my parrot, filled with fruit and nuts kept her busy,! my only issue was that the part that fastens to cage was cracked on arrival, the packer must have seen that, so was disappointed. So it didnt last long before it broke in two pieces so for that reason I gave it 2 stars.

We got our grey used to it on the sofa, then put it in his cage. He will not yet touch it in his cage. We will move it back to the sofa to get him used to it again. The only thing I think is missing is a tray to catch the food that falls out as it turns and when pecked at, so a lot is wasted.

My bird has his regular food in his bowl but I put treats into this wheel. Pistachios and Harrisons Power Treats. Makes them last a little longer. I hinged my wheel at the top not the side as shown in the picture. I do not know if that makes a difference. Unfortunately this website will not allow the use of punctuation such as apostrophes and brackets so apologies are offered, it is not my fault!

Great For Spreading Her Meals Throughout The Day.

My Parrots: African Grey

My CAG is normally wary of new things but if food is involved she will love it. She now prefers her food using this than putting it in her bowl. it keeps her busier for longer throughout the day. The only this is she soon figured out how to unlatch the puzzle area from the holder and laugh while it crashes to the floor of her cage. She will then sit and wait for you to reattach it and the game can continue. The abuse she has given it and it not even chipped or cracked once show the strength of the plastic. Easy to attach and detach. Even for parrot. Easy to clean. Definitely recommend for a starter foraging toy.

Unable to completly Analyze
14th April 2014
Rank : Top 250 Reviewer
If only i had got full chance to analyze this, I believe this may have been a decent product.....HOWEVER, product arrived faulty which after the initial 48 hours of being in the cage, made it easy for my pet to dissemble the wheel at his own will. I purchased this for my african grey parrot. \eho has always been a smart parrot, finding the weaknesses in anything and finding a way to use it to his own gain. The bolt that holds this procust together came with half the thread damaged / cross threaded. so the bolt does not tighten properly, leaving approx 1/2 a mm of play, this is however enough for George to get his beak behind and using his strength, rip the rest of the bolt from the nut, leaving the front of the wheel unsecured and easilly removable. I am going to see if i can source another nut and bolt for this myself, and then hopefully George may get the use from this. however until this, it just a nice shelf ornament. Dont get me wrong I believe that should I be able to source a new fastening mechanism, I believe this will Keep george's mind active, However this also should not come fault out of the box.

Strong material, poor design
12th October 2013

Although the wheel is made from very strong material, and thus is suitable for my Grey, the poor design means that within seconds of putting it in the cage he detaches the wheel from it's mounting and throws it to the floor of the cage. Would not recommend unless someone can advise how to fix it so that the wheel stays put !

Good foraging fun.

I bought one of these as one of the first foraging toys for my Green cheek conure and Cockatiel. The wheel is well made and would easily withstand rough treatment from birds of this size for years, I would be more than happy to give it to a medium sized bird without fearing it would get destroyed easily as well. The wheel is alot easier to attatch to the side of the cage than other similar toys I have come across as it has a large plastic screw type attatchment to secure it, which also makes removal easy. The toy can be taken apart by unscrewing it for ease of cleaning. The wheel is split up into compartments and there are two holes to allow the bird access to the food, It isn't really suitable for anything much larger than a peanut though. Small seeds/pellets can be used with the wheel, if you over fill it they may drop out and the last few may be just out of the parrots reach. I haven't found that they jam the wheel up at all, unlike with a similar toy my conure has, and it spins easily. My conure took about 30 minutes to figure it out and my 'tiel about 2 weeks. It has turned out to be a favorite toy so I bought a second one so they don't have to take it in turns.I think the price is a little high, it put me off buying one to begin with but I'm glad I got them now.

My birds love it , Great having multiple compartments

My 2 african greys go through their toys very quickly so I bought this to keep them amused. They love it and do squabble over who's turn it is . They figured it out after a couple of weeks but I like all the compartments as I can put in different nuts and some bread sticks . Kiwi takes time lining up the slot to her favorite nut but then Mango comes along and spins the handle randomly its very funny to watch . I use to leave it in all the time and fill it once a day but Kiwi figured out how to un hook it and would throw it to the ground if it was empty. I now put it in at night time when I want them to go back inside their cage which use to be a big mission of me chasing them around the room as they kept on flying now when I put this back in, They climb back into their cage on their own straight away worth the money just for this . I am scared they will break it and its not easy to clean which is a shame but I would recommend it .

My African Grey worked this out ver easily and it did keep him happy. I was very dissapointed at paying 22.00 for an item that was easily distroyed in three weeks. This is definitely not suitable for African Greys unless they change the material that it is made with. It is difficult to fill with the treats too. Having to remove it from the cage. Having a large cage this really requires two to do this.

A well made toy

The wheel is well made and easy to fill. It does seem a bit easy though and my bird worked it out really quickly. Because it can only be attached to the sides of the cage there isn't really that many options for making it more entertaining.

The toy is what you see and keeps the parrots busy. I bought two of these, and the plastic screw in the back broke straight the first day which I fixed with superglue. Also parrots usually figure out how to loose the toy and throw it to the ground. The toy is great but perhaps better finished would be needed.

The jury's still out

I'm a little undecided on this one. It does keep her busy for 20 minutes or so at a time, but for my Congo African Grey, the holes are too small I think, and so far, she more often than not gives up before she was able to get her treat out. I'm worried that she will get frustrated with it. She figured it out fairly quickly and can turn the wheel ok. I would definitely recommend this for a smaller bird though.

my blue front amzon loves this wheel, i put some of her kaytee pellets in it every day and she keeps going until she's emptied it. I put paper in too sometimes to make it more difficult to get the food out but she still gets there in the end lol.

It's a ''wheely good'' foraging wheel
27th February 2010

I have recently purchased this wheel for my African Grey as he easily gets bored and I was looking for something to keep him occupied while I am out of the house. It is very easy to attach to the cage and has a quick release catch to make removing from the cage simple. My TAG took to it straight away and spends hours twisting the handle to get to his favourite treats. I usually fill it with nutriberries, dried fruits and various nuts.Definately a winner here!

breaks easily

i have 7 parrots ranging from a quaker to a macaw all have a wheel each .most of them love the toy itself but they break its not the parrots that break them its when you screw and unscrew it from the back to remove it from the bars .the plastic prongs that you screw it to the cage snap very easily no matter how carefull you are in tightening it up.northern parrots have replaced 2 that have snapped but i have another thats snapped but because i bought it a year ago they won,t so i have an expensive toy thats only a few months old and hubby has had to drill another hole and attach a nut and bolt otherwise it would have had to be thrown out as there is no way to hang it up..they are very fiddely to keep opening on a daily basis esp when you have a lot to do like me.

Greys loved it but broke it in a week
25th January 2010

I have two african greys who absolutely love foraging toys. I have yet to find one that they have not destroyed within 2 weeks. This has held up longer than most! After emptying it of treats the "proper" way they proceeded to unscrew the wheel. You need to do this when filling it with treats and it was probably my mistake doing it in front of them! This meant it came crashing to the ground and the very small nut on the back was lost forever. Spent 3 days looking for it with two very satisfied little greys watching me crawl about on me hands and knees. Now in the process of finding a nut that fits the toy.Would recommend this to less destructive birds.

This is great for my grey. The holes are fine and my grey always manages to get even the tiny treats inside, though the downside to this toy is my grey can easily remove the clips on the wheel, so I always find the wheel on the bottom of the cage where he has taken it off. The toy lasted long time before he eventually broke it by snapping off one of the clips.

While this intriqued my CAG immediately, (she has had something similar in the past), I found that she occasionally has difficulty getting the food/treats out. However she does manage with perserverance. Perhaps two holes of different shapes would be better rather than two the same shape? She seems to be attempting to 'reshape the holes' herself mind lol. Will update if she manages!Good that it is dishwasher proof as it means sticky/messy food can be uses without hassel.
